PROJECT REVEAL: RACHEL'S PRIMARY BEDROOM Makeover ✨

From initial sketch to mood board and the finished product!

Designing primary bedrooms is something I’ve done countless times in my career, but when it came to creating a space for myself, I wanted it to feel deeply personal—an expression of the things I love, and a true retreat from the everyday.

THE END RESULT: A bedroom that gives the essence of calm. The perfect space to relax!

It all started with a sketch....

The inspiration for this room actually came from a recent trip to Mexico. While exploring a local market, I came across a pair of oversized rattan pendants—and I was instantly hooked. The texture, the craftsmanship, and the way light danced through the woven fibers felt so organic and grounding. That moment sparked the entire vision for the space. 🌿

From the initial sketch we created a project design board to start bringing the vision to life.

Layering Old & New

We started by keeping our existing white nightstands. Now, normally in design, white furniture can sometimes feel stark, especially in a bedroom. But I knew that with the right layering of natural textures—like the rattan pendants, a beautiful wooden tray, and a soft upholstered bed—we could bring in warmth and balance. Instead of swapping the nightstands, we focused our attention (and budget!) on a show-stopping wood bench at the foot of the bed. It’s both functional and stunning—exactly the kind of unexpected element I love in a space.

Creating a Cozy Focal Point

The room didn’t originally have a fireplace, but I couldn’t resist the idea of adding that cozy focal point. With a fairly affordable insert and a bit of custom build-out, we brought in just enough architectural detail to elevate the room. It’s now one of my absolute favorite elements.

A Color Palette That Soothes

From the beginning, the goal was simple: create a feeling of calm. I wanted this room to be a sanctuary, somewhere I could completely unwind at the end of the day. We landed on a soothing palette of muted blues, creamy whites, and soft beiges. The paint color—Sherwin-Williams Sanctuary—couldn’t have been more perfect. It’s serene, soft, and brings everything together beautifully.

This bedroom has become exactly what I hoped for: a relaxing retreat that reflects my love of natural materials, thoughtful details, and restful design. I hope it inspires you to bring a little more peace and beauty into your own space too. ✨
